Essentially Group's delight at Nicole Cooke's Gold

Essentially Group Ltd (AIM: ESN.L), the full service sports marketing agency is please to announce that its long term client Nicole Cooke kicked off Great Britain’s medal haul on Sunday by taking the 200th GB Gold medal in a rain soaked Women’s road race in Beijing.  Cooke is managed by the Essentially Group Management Division alongside clients such as New Zealand Rugby Union star Dan Carter.

Cooke rode the perfect race in a thrilling finish as five riders broke away from the peloton and sprinted towards the line. Nicole took the lead with 200m to go and never relinquished her grip on the Gold medal. Nicole obtained her lifelong ambition of winning Olympic Gold after 12 months of a strict and gruelling training program, she tactically navigated the 78.5 mile course to finish on top and set the standard for the rest of Team GB.

After a disappointing first Olympic appearance in Athens in 2004 where she finished 5th, 25 year old Nicole has described her win in Beijing as ’a dream come true’.

Cooke sets the record as the first British Olympian to win Gold on the road, the first cycling gold to be won by a British women and the first Welsh medal winner for 36 years. Cooke will be keeping her celebrations under control as she prepares for the Women’s Time Trial event in which she competes on Wednesday.
